Economy and small cars

Economy car hire e.g.Renault Clio or similar
Economy are the smallest rental cars available and offer good value car hire. Designed to get from one place to another with the minimum fuss at the lowest price! Hire cars of this size do not offer lots of space for luggage, but can seat 2 or 3 in comfort. The small economy hire car is at its best in towns and cities, where they can easily park in small parking spots! Hire Vehicles of this size are frequently seen on the roads of Britain. The small compact car is a great trade off between size and value which is why there are so many vehicles of this size on the roads, the cars are comfortable for two or three adults and a small amount of lugguage.

Vehicles in this group will be something like a Renault Clio, Peugeot 207, Toyota Yaris or a Hyundai i10. These cars normally have small engine capacities which won't win a race but will offer good fuel economy.

Compact cars

Compact car hire e.g. Vauxhall Astra or similar
Compact hire cars. Compact cars that are typical of this car hire group would be vehicles such as Hyundai i30, VW Golf, Peugeot 308 or Ford Focus. All these hire cars will be similar in terms of size, space and specification. They will typically be 5 door hatchbacks, ie they will have a large rear door for access to a good sized boot. Engines will vary between 1400cc and 1800cc and some will be diesel and others petrol. They are comfortable for up to four adults and will cope with longer journeys.

Intermediate cars

Intermediate car hire e.g. Ford Mondeo 1.8 engine or similar
Intermediate rental vehicles are larger than Compact hire cars and are either 4 door saloons or 5 door hatchbacks. They will have either a petrol or diesel engine of around 1800 cc capacity. Intermediate hire cars have space for four or five adults with luggage and are comfortable for cruising on longer journeys. Estate cars are also available if you need more luggage space or are carrying large items. Typical vehicles in this group include hire cars such as the Ford Mondeo, Toyota Avensis, VW Passat or Vauxhall Insignia. Rental companies tend to have a mixture of manufacturers on fleet at any given time, so makes and models cannot be guaranteed, but the vehicles will be similar in size.

Compact Medium Automatic Cars

Compact automatic rental vehicles will be vehicles of similar size to VW Golf, Ford Focus or Vauxhall Astras. If you can only drive an automatic car, or if you prefer driving an auto then these cars will fit the bill. If you are on holiday it is sometimes easier to drive an automatic car. Compact vehicles have room for 4 adults and bags and they normally have engines capable of comfortable driving.

Estate Cars

Estate car hire e.g. Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra or similar
If you need to seat for or five adults and you need some extra luggage space, then an estate, or station wagon maybe the answer. Based on Compact or intermediate saloons, these vehicles have a large, easily accessible area behind the rear seats. In fact you can fold down the rear seats to make a very large luggage area. The intermediate vehicle is slightly bigger than the compact and will have a more powerful engine. Compact estates are typically Ford focus, Vauxhall Astra or VW Golf. Intermediate estates, VW Passat, Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 508 or Vauxhall Insignia.

Small 7 Seat People carrier hire

The small seven seat rental vehicles are very popular because they are very flexible. They have five adult seats and also have two extra seats I the boot that can be folded into the floor or folded out to create two extra seats, although these seats are really only suitable for children. So the small seven seat vehicles can be used as a people mover or they can be used as a load lugger when the rear seats are not used. With all seven seats used there is only a limited amount of luggage space. Typical vehicles in this group would be the Vauxhall Zafira, VW Touran or the Peugeot 3008.

Full size seven seat car hire

These vehicles are very popular with either larger families or when a few groups want to travel together. Full size seven seat vehicles have seven full size adult seats and are well equipped allowing a comfortable journey for all passengers. Two of the seats can normally be folded in two if only five are in the vehicle, as these vehicles don't have huge amounts of luggage space. Seven seat hire cars have good upright seating positions and so passengers get a view! Seven seat rental cars will normally be Ford Galaxy, Ford S Max, VW Sharan, Kia Sedona or similar vehicles.

Luxury cars

As the name suggests, luxury cars offer the best in terms of space and comfort. Your journey will be safe, comfortable and you will creature comforts to hand. Luxury cars can seat five adults and the boots are spacious enough for their luggage. Luxury vehicles will be complimented by engines that suit them and will make traveling easy. Typical luxury cars in this group will be Mercedes E class or Mercedes C Class, Audi A4 or A6 or similar premium brand vehicles.

9 seat vehicles

9 seat vehicle rental e.g. Ford Torneo, VW Transporter or similar
These vehicles are ideal for either groups of people, large families or for those that need extra space. 9 seat rental vehicles have seating for 9 adults and have enough boot space for luggage. They are also popular with Golf parties as they can accommodate golfers and their clubs. They are obviously larger than normal cars but are not too difficult to drive, just be aware when parking that you need extra space. These vehicles are not available from every branch; the branches are listed in the booking engine when you select '9 seat vehicles'. They are very popular so you need to book 9 seat vehicles early! The usual 9 seat vehicles on fleet are the VW Transporter, Mercedes Benz Vito, Ford Torneo or Vauxhall Vivaro

4 Wheel Drive Vehicles

4X4 Hire e.g. Audi Allroad, Kia Sorento or similar
4x4s are available at selected branches. The models available range from luxury 4x4 vehicles such as the Mercedes ML series or Range Rovers, through Volvo XC90's or Audi Allroad to smaller 4x4's such as the Kia Sorento. These vehicles have great specifications and have the added benefit of extra security and safety. 4x4's offer a commanding driving position and have great road holding capabilities. They are not allowed 'off road' but small road and farm tracks are allowed. In snowy and icy conditions they are capable of making journeys that rear wheeled cars would struggle to do. However the supply of 4x4 vehicle hire is limited so book early, especially in adverse weather conditions.

15 and 17 seat Minibuses

Minibus Hire
15 or 17 seat minibus available at selected branches. Special driving licence conditions apply. Minibus hire is a great way to share a journey! Available with either 15 or 17 seats minibuses allow a group, team or party to be driven to a camp, tournament or holiday! The cost of the rental can be spread between the passengers and allow for a cost effective way of transportation. Based on a Long wheel based van, a minibus is easy to drive, but the driver must hold the correct licence with a D1 category. Minibuses are available from most locations, but not from Airports. They can be in short supply during peak holiday times, so advanced booking is recommended to make sure the branch can get one. They are not allowed on one way journeys, so they have to be returned to the branch

Small vans, short/long wheel base vans and Luton vans

Whatever you need to move, there should be a van to accommodate! From small vans based on car right up to a Luton Box van with a tail lift. Whether you are picking up a new fridge or moving house there should be a van of the right size. Small van are easy to drive and great for moving things just too big for your car. The most common van is the 'short wheel base van' which have quite a large area for furniture or beds. They are relatively easy to drive, but need concentration! They seat three but you can't see out of the back! The Long wheel based vans are very big and you need to be aware of their size when driving. Luton vans are very large, but they need to be ordered in advance. Van hire is available from most locations and one way hires are also allowed, although there may well be a surcharge. Fords, Vauxhalls, VWs and Mercedes vans are the most popular brands.
